Native Planting.

Project partner: Te Ara Kākāriki

A corner of the property was retired from grazing to enrich biodiversity, creating a compact native planting that links stepping stone habitats. Supported by Central Plains Water Limited Environmental Management Fund (EMF) and led by Te Ara Kākāriki, this node enhances connectivity for native wildlife.

Impact.

  • 494 indigenous beech forest plants established under stock exclusion fencing.
  • Restoration plan & planting day funded by CPWL (incl. $1,000 plant subsidy).
  • 100% survival at first monitoring (11 Dec); minimal frost damage.
  • Stepping stone habitat now links nearby forest remnants.

Boosted wildlife movement: pollinators, invertebrates & small birds.

This compact Greendot fills a critical gap in the landscape. By knitting together forest remnants, it gives native species safe passage, enriches local biodiversity and sets the stage for self-sustaining regeneration.
