Land use: Cattle grazing

Supported with four years of funding from Central Plains Water Environmental Management (EMF) Fund Te Ara Kākāriki (TAK) embarked on a four-year restoration plan for this wetland site which is located about 500m from the Rakaia River. 1000 plants have been planted each year since 2018 by TAK volunteers and the landowners.

Impact.

The wetland is spring fed with the water being filtered through the planting before going underground and eventually making its way into the Selwyn River. The planting provides habitat for birdlife in an area without many substantial native areas. Since planting there have been many skinks spotted around the site and recently a winter copper butterfly.
