About
- Address: 68 Pitts Rd, Darfield
- Planted 489 plants in 2024 to create a tōtara kahikatea podocarp forest
- Land use: Sheep grazing
Background
The landowners aim to establish an effective wildlife node on the plain amidst an area of extensive cultivation. The site sits at the end of a water race, leading to a pond that attracts several native bird visitors, and the pond supports populations of native fish. By planting more native species, the landowners hope to encourage more regular wildlife visitors.
CPW contributed funding for the restoration plan and volunteer planting day, as well as $1,000 towards plants and guards.
Monitoring
Monitored on Dec 11th: showed the plants are growing well, with 11 deaths recorded.
