Springfield School – School Planting.

Greendot Program

Central Plains Water Environmental Management Fund (EMF) has supported Te Ara Kākāriki (TAK) to provide the educational Kids Discovery Plantout Programme to Springfield School students for the last three years.

The students take part in planting about 400 plants per year, either on their school land or a reserve across the road. They also participate in a range of hands-on activities learning about their local ecosystem. Recent activities include learning about native birds, learning cultural uses of native plants and learning which insect species are present and what that can tell us about the health of the environment.

Impact.

Delivering experiences beyond the classroom, students develop a sense of responsibility for the social and natural environment, while learning and discovering a vast living world, beneath their feet.
