On-farm sustainability.
Supporting on-farm sustainability.
Since 2016 the Central Plains Water Limited Environmental Team has used an evidence-based approach, guiding farmers to implement sustainable farming practices that align with local government regulations. Every farm on the CPWL scheme has an independently audited Farm Environmental Plan (FEP) that helps to build a bridge between the environment the farm is located within and the farm system – identifying risks, recording how soil, nutrients, pasture and stock are managed, providing a holistic view of the entire farm system.
Impacts at scale.
While CPWL irrigates 45,000 hectares of land, the CPWL environmental team actively manages FEPs across approximately 71,000 hectares of farmland. It is this unique catchment-wide approach that ensures improved environmental outcomes at a meaningful scale.
Outcomes focused.
With a focus on outputs and working closely with farmers, the CPWL Environmental Team assists with the preparation of FEP audits while providing technical advice. Including issues such as sediment runoff and waterway and nutrient management – ensuring farmers are well-informed to make solid management decisions supported by data.
Environmental outcomes.
- 100% of CPWL farms have an FEP
- 99.3% of CPWL farms have an A or B-grade audit
- 29% reduction of nitrogen below the plant root zone from CPWL farms
